props that have sailed the seas

Sometimes a small bag needs something to sit along side. Thus, on occasion, one of a few pieces that I've inherited from my grandmother, who received them as gifts from her father, will be visible in an haruki dot image. These objects were collected by my great grandfather during the 1800s as he skippered ships across the globe, including into Nagasaki Harbour. One of these ships - his first command - is pictured below. Though they were probably considered trinkets at the time, I know how valuable these small objects were to her - brought them safely to Hobart from northern Scotland on her journey as a war bride to marry my grandfather.

I've tried to maintain a Japanese connection, but I suspect that these three small carvings may be from China. I'm sure someone out there will be more knowledgeable that I and will know straight away. I would love to hear from you!

These two cups, are, I believe, Japanese sake cups, too small to be tea cups.
